Dancing with the Stars Season Premiere Recap: Who Surprised?

A new set of celebrities hit the floor Monday night as Dancing with the Stars Season 27 got underway.

This is usually the point we talk about which of the celebrities are notable, but it’s difficult to do that when the show has such a random bunch who probably should not have made the cut.

But they did.

Let’s break down the performances on the season premiere to find out which members of the cast actually stand a chance at winning.

Mary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber

We liked Retton’s chances heading into the season because of her stint in the Olympics. Athletes are more flexible than most, and cutting some shapes on the dance floor is the name of the game on this series.

They dance the Cha Cha to “Treasure,” and there were some glaring issues. It could be a case of it being the first performance, but she will need to loosen up if she wants to remain in the game.

Len Goodman did say she was “pretty nifty for fifty,” so there’s that.

Judges’ Score: 19/30

Milo Manheim and Witney Carson

We had no idea who the heck Milo was when the cast was revealed, but after one episode, we’re sure he’s going to make it very far.

The Disney star performed the Cha Cha to “Free Free Free,” and there was instant chemistry between him and Witney.

There was some criticism, but most of that stemmed from him moving around at a breakneck pace. It turns out these judges want him to straighten his legs a little bit more.

Okay then.

Judges’ Score: 20/30

Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe

Evanna was memorable as Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter movies, and if she manages to battle the nerves, she could carve out a dancing career.

She was fast and tried any of the routines set out for her which is no easy task. She was rejected from dance college and is now looking to dance her way to victory.

She and Keo danced the foxtrot to “Do You Believe in Magic.” It’s unclear whether Evanna does actually believe in magic.

Judges’ Score: 18/30

Danelle Umstead and Artem Chigvintsev

Danelle danced the foxtrot to “Rise Up” with Artem. Despite being completely blind, she aced the number.

The judges seemed to think so as well, calling the duo’s bond “magical.”

Judges Score: 18/30

Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess

This radio personality went with a jive to “T-R-O-U-B-L-E,” and it was a surprisingly fresh performance. Granted, there were some issues, but for the most part, it was solid.

Judges’ Score: 20/30

Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke

Did anyone actually think this Fuller House actor was going to be bad? The moment he appeared on the dance floor with Cheryl and danced a salsa to “Dinero,” it was evident he was one to watch.

Len even went as far as calling him “the hunk with the junk in the trunk.”

Judges’ Score: 22/30

Nikki Glaser and Gleb Savchenko

This was one of the more frustrating performances on the night. The comedian went with a salsa to “Yes,” but it was far too rusty.

It felt like an early rehearsal, and the judges pointed that out through their critiques.

Judges’ Score: 17/30

Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten

Was this the biggest surprise of the night? Model, Alexis Ren who we had never heard of before her casting strutted her stuff in a poignant jive to “Good Golly Miss Molly.”

She dedicated the performance to her late mother, and the judges were shocked by her dancing ability.

Judges’ Score: 21/30

John Schneider and Emma Slater

At one point, John Schneider was very famous. Somewhere along the way, he disappeared out of the public eye.

He returned on Monday night with a solid foxtrot to “Good Ol’ Boys from Dukes of Hazzard.” We’re struggling to conclude whether the song choice was smart or desperate.

The judges were divided on whether there was something there, but we’ll need to stay tuned to find out if he dances to the Smallville theme tune next.

Judges’ Score: 18/30

Tinashe and Brandon Armstrong

Tinasha is the only member of the cast who is still semi-relevant. It makes sense then that she would prove why she was still relevant with her dance routine.

Her jive to “I’m a Lady” oozed elegance and was filled with showstopping moments. Do we already have our winner?

Judges’ Score: 23/30

Nancy McKeon and Val Chmerkovskiy

This The Facts of Life star turned in a surprisingly solid quickstep to “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” and the judges had a mixed response to it.

She was by no means the best or the worst performer of the night, but there’s potential.

Judges’ Score: 18/30

Joe “Grocery Store Joe” Amabile and Jenna Johnson

We still have no idea why Joe is part of the cast, but he kept a smile on his face while performing the quickstep to “Fish Out of Water,” and it was a resounding failure.

Will he self-evict or will he be headed home Tuesday night?

Judges’ Score: 14/30

DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold

This former NFL pro closed out the season premiere with an awesome cha-cha to “Sweet Sensation.” All three judges were enamored with his ability.

Judges’ Score: 23/30.

What are your thoughts on the performances? Who should go?

Dancing with Stars continues tonight at 8/7c on ABC.

90 Day Fiance Season 6 Trailer: See the New Couples!

90 Day Fiance is coming back!

The series that brought you Jorge and Anfisa and Danielle and Mohamed is returning for its sixth season.

Take a look at the explosive trailer and get to know the new couples. Which will make it, and which won't even last the 90 days?

90 day fiance kalani and asuelu

First up, we have Kalani and Asuelu.

Kalani is 29 and comes from Orange County, California. Asuelu is 23 and is from Samoa.

This photogenic couple met when Kalani was on vacation in Samoa. One thing led to another, and the Mormon woman ended up losing her virginity to him.

She also got pregnant, and now the two of them have a 5-month-old.

Kalani's family has their doubts, and it looks like cultural differences are going to play a huge role as they try to make this work.

90 day fiance jonathan and fernanda

Now, let's talk about Jonathan and Fernanda.

Jonathan is 32, and comes from Lumberton, a small and very old city in North Carolina.

Fernanda is 19 years old and comes from Mexico.

The two met in a club in Mexico, and now they are engaged. Their age difference is raising some eyebrows — they're both adults, but marriage is not the same thing as a hookup.

They got engaged only three months after meeting, but it looks like Fernanda may have some jealousy and maturity issues for them to work out.

90 day fiance colt and larissa

Next, there's Colt and Larissa.

Colt is a 33-year-old from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Larissa is a 31-year-old from Brazil.

Colt began looking for a woman internationally after having a run of bad luck in searching for a partner while in the U.S. Some would consider that a huge red flag.

He is very close to his mother and hopes that his new bride will make a good impression with her.

It looks like others in Colt's life are concerned that Larissa is just after his money.

90 day fiance ashley and jay

Ashley and Jay are definitely causing a stir among Ashley's friends and family.

Ashley is 32, and comes from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

Jay is only 20, and comes from Jamaica.

The two of them met in a club in Jamaica while Ashley was in town for a friend's wedding. Now, they're engaged.

These two have the exact same age gap as Jonathan and Fernanda, but since no one is a teenager, it doesn't look like that will be the focus.

It looks like Ashley's loved ones are concerned that Jay is a womanizer or even a cheater. Fans hope, of course, that their suspicion is not fueled by racism.

90 day fiance eric and leida

Eric and Leida are certainly putting a fun twist on the kinds of stories that we expect to see.

Eric is 40 and comes from Baraboo, Wisconsin.

Leida is 29 and comes from Indonesia, where she lives with her son and with her wealthy family.

The fun twist that we mentioned is that Leida, though not American by birth, is accustomed to living with a certain degree of wealth.

Eric, in the mean time, lives … a little like a college student. And it looks like Eric's children aren't certain of Leida's intentions.

90 day fiance steven and olga

Steven and Olga seem like they might be the most toxic couple of this new season. At least, that's the impression that we're getting from the trailer.

Steven is 20 and comes from Bowie, Maryland.

Ogla is also 20 and comes from Moscow, Russia. They met when she was vacationing in the U.S.

She quickly became pregnant when they hooked up, and are now raising their baby in America.

From the trailer, it looks like Steven takes a harsh view of their relationship and of Olga, which she finds very hurtful. These two could be painful to watch.

Snooki: The New Season of Jersey Shore Is Full of LIES!

If you’ve been watching the current season of Jersey Shore Family Vacation, you may have noticed that something about the show is a bit … off.

And we’re not talking about the fact that Ronnie’s baby mama makes the rest of the cast look downright sophisticated by comparison, or the mystery of how Mike is able to casually consume 4,500 calories at each meal.

No, we’re talking about the haphazard, slapdash way the show seems to be assembled this season,

Jersey Shore Family Vacation 2 — as it’s officially known — was a rush job inspired by the success of its predecessor, and frankly — it often shows.

Cast members come and go as they’re forced to attend to career and family obligations that were lined up before this season was hastily greenlit.

Scenes often seem to go on forever as producers attempt to convince us they’ve got a season’s worth of material despite the fact that we last checked in on our favorite guidos less than two months ago.

But perhaps the show’s biggest flaw these days is the fact that individual storylines often seem to be fabricated from whole cloth.

Take the ongoing “feud” between Snooki and Jenni, for example.

On social media, viewers have expressed confusion, as the main point of contention between these two seems to be that Snooki invited Angelina to Vegas — which makes little sense, as Jenni would be well aware that her friend did so out of professional obligation.

(Love her or hate her, Angelina is good for drama, a fact the show’s producers are well aware of.)

In a recent interview with Buzzfeed, Snooks basically confirmed what viewers have long suspected — there is no Snooki vs. JWoww feud.

“The last episode, nothing made sense to us because we know exactly what happened,” she said.

“Sometimes editing, they try and leave stuff out, so they make it seem like something was there that wasn’t. We’re not scripted at all. We just go in there and do our thing, but we never know how they’re going to edit it.”

Snooki added:

“We aren’t scripted. But what does happen is the editing and how it comes off. That is not our control.

“I could be mad at Angelina but they can make it look like I’m mad at Jenni. I’m like, that’s not even what’s going on.”

She went on to clarify that Jenni’s decision to head home to her family had nothing to do with the drama on the show:

“I got upset for Jenni because she left for her son, because her son had a doctor appointment, but they made it seem like she left because she was mad that I invited Joey and Angelina,”

“So Jenni is not a bully, leave her alone,” Snooki added.

“The editing really screws her up.”

Obviously, this is far from the first time that MTV’s editors have come under fire for manipulating footage.

But we hope at the end of the day, those airing their grievances understand that this is the nature of reality TV — and for the most part, viewers are well aware of that.

America’s Got Talent Season 13: Did the Right Contestant Win?

A magician never reveals his tricks.

But a magician has now revealed what it feels like to be crowned the winner of America’s Got Talent…

3 agt contestants

… because Shin Lim took home that honor on Wednesday night.

With 10 finalists battling it out on stage until the final vote, Season 13 came down to Lim and singing group Zurcaroh, with the self-taught 26-year old eventually coming out on top.

Much to his own complete shock.

“I can’t speak right now,” Lim said after he was named the champion and tackled his fellow finalists.

They all picked him up and put them on their shoulders after the announcement was made.

“When you told me at 16 that an awkward, shy kid would one day be performing at the Dolby Theatre performing on America’s Got Talent, I wouldn’t have believed them,” he added.

“To compete on AGT, it means the world to me.”

The very impressive magician not only took home the $ 1 million prize — but will also headline the America’s Got Talent Live stage at the Paris Theater in Las Vegas from November 2-4.

Lim’s parents hail from Singapore.

He was born in Canada and currently lives in Acton, Massachusetts and he blew viewers away through sleight of hand magic and close-up tricks.

For his finale, Lim performed a card trick with host Tyra Banks and American Ninja Warrior co-hosts Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbaja-Biamila.

At various points in the competition, Howie Mandel and Simon Cowell called Lim “the best close-up magician they have ever seen.”

(He’s second magician to win America’s Got Talent, following Mat Franco on Season 9.)

yay Shin Lim

At age 20, four years after the started to learn the art of magic, Lim was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome.

This forced him to gave up his piano career, as he dropped out of the School of Music at Lee University in Tennessee and put all his time and effort into his aspiring magic career.

After perfecting a number of tricks simply by studying YouTube videos, Lim appeared twice on Penn Jillette and Teller’s magic competition show, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, in 2015 and 2017.

He also took his talents overseas, including gigs in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, and Taiwan.

After his victory, Lim said he took Cowell’s advice to heart and moved away from the card table to make his show appear even bigger and more dazzling.

He’s thankful to the judge for offering up this tidbit and pushing him toward the grand prize.

“I learned so much going away from the table. It’s harder because it’s something I’m uncomfortable with. So, I really feel like I now have the confidence to build on it,” he said.

The finale performance “was my way of growing as a magician, and I think I’m going to follow that path of getting bigger and having a full show.”

Congratulations to Shin Lim!

Do you think he deserved to win?

Or do you remain shocked that singer Courtney Hadwin didn’t go all the way?

Modern Family to Kill Off Major Character on Season 10

Some may say that Modern Family is the funniest show on television.

But there will be nothing funny about one of the upcoming storylines on Season 10 of the beloved ABC program.

According to co-creator Christopher Lloyd, the first half of the upcoming season will feature a significant character death.

That’s certainly something new for the series.

“We’re handling some bigger life events in this season,” Lloyd told Entertainment Weekly today, adding as a tease:

“We do deal with a death, which is certainly a topic that families have to deal with, and on television, it’s not easy to do because that’s a heavy subject. But at the same time, it would seem unusual for a family not to go through it.”

As you might expect, Lloyd isn’t about to divulge the identity of the corpse.

But he does say that it will “significant character on the series” and the death “will be a moving event – and an event that has repercussions across several episodes.”

members in shock

Modern Family stars Ed O’Neill, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Ariel Winter, Sarah Hyland, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould and Aubrey Anderson-Emmon.

It has maintained the same cast throughout its duration on the air.

It also set a record by winning five straight Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy Awards.

The sitcom is heading into its final contractual season, meaning this very well could be the show’s final season.

Lloyd, however, hopes this won’t be the case.

“There’s goodwill on both sides to make it happen, but there’s also complicated matters that have to get worked through, and there’s a time constraint on it, because we can’t have it take too long,” he says.

“I’m hoping that that doesn’t make the whole thing go away, but I think there’s a decent chance we’ll see it happen.”

Lloyd continued as follows:

“From our standpoint creatively we’ve gotten excited writing this season and changing the lives of the characters – some in a significant way – and it’s made us think, ‘Wow, there’s a lot to explore in the lives of these characters.’

“They’re in many ways such different characters than they were five or 10 years ago when we started and they’re just as interesting and just as funny. So our standpoint was, ‘Well, if we can do another season, we may as well.’

“I’m hoping that we have some news on that [soon], and if it winds up that we tried and just couldn’t make it work, we will have a great final season for sure.”

Modern Family Season 10 premieres on Wednesday, September 26 at 9/8c.

Our best guess is that Phil’s father, played by the amazing Fred Willard, is the one who kicks the proverbial bucket.

As for what else fans can expect from upcoming episodes?

He told EW the following:

“There is a significant change in the dynamics of the family that people maybe thought was going to happen at some point down the line that is happening sooner than expected.”

Grey’s Anatomy Season 15 Trailer: Meet the Hot New Docs!

Grey's Anatomy will be featuring quite a few changes on Season 15.

But at least one thing will remain the same:

The doctors at the center of this long-running series will NOT exactly be difficult on the eyes.

A pair of cases in point:

As previously reported, neither Sarah Drew nor Jessica Capshaw will reprise their roles (as April Kepner and Arizona Robbins, respectively) ths fall, but producers are looking to fill these holes with the newbies pictured above.

The official preview highlighted on this page shows actors Chris Carmack and Alex Landi strolling into the hospital as two handsome physicians, along with a female patient lying in bed.

“Oh, my God,” she gushes as they enter her room.

Speaking of bed, the concept of entering (sorry) and a woman expressing awe/satisfaction… it also looks like Meredith will be getting a new love interest on Season 15.

This is the main takeaway from the trailer for most fans.

At the conclusion of this trailer – which teases a two-part season premiere with "one jaw-dropping twist" – Ellen Pompe's Meredith seems rather flustered around Dr. Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti).

Yes, she shot him down last season.

But this season? All we know is that the footage flashes to scenes of the two making out between the sheets.

Elsewhere, Kim Raver’s Teddy Altman appears, announcing she’s “11 weeks pregnant,” as Dr. Maggie Pierce (played by Kelly McCreary) looks at her in disbelief.

We can't wait to see how this storyline develops.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 15 premieres on ABC on Thursday, September 27, at 8/7c.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Drew said the following about her unexpected departure:

"I was told that the show had too many characters. And that they needed to downsize because they couldn’t service all of the characters effectively…

"It was really hard to hear that.

"But [producer Krista Vernoff] had a lot of very complimentary things to say about the work that I had done – especially this past season – and that April was going to have her happy ending."

We'll miss April for sure.

But we're still psyched to find out what's in store in Seattle on Season 15.

Check out the new footage now!
